David West is an American former professional NBA basketball player. He played 15-years at the highest level of basketball and won two NBA Championships. David played for the New Orleans Hornets, Indiana Pacers, San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA). David’s personal professional accolades include two NBA All-Star invitations as a member of the Hornets and lead the Pacers to the Eastern Conference Finals in consecutive seasons.
A former collegiate basketball great at Xavier University (OH), West is Xavier’s second all-time leading scorer with 2,132 career points and third all-time leading rebounder with 1,308 career boards. West was a 2002-03 Associated Press, United States Basketball Writers Association, and Basketball Times National Collegiate Player of the Year.
This has enabled David the opportunity to be a leader on issues which are close to him such as youth and sustainable resource development. David is the principal and head of the West Group, an organization that facilitates the development of youth in sports and individually-tailored mentorship, located in Raleigh, North Carolina USA. Under the direction of the West Group, David operates a nationally recognized youth basketball development program, Garner Road Basketball Club, which carries out the mantra “No Books, No Ball.” The West Group also operates the J.D. Lewis Multi-Purpose Center, which services the local community though programmatic initiatives. More than 7,000 individuals from the Raleigh-Durham area have benefited from David’s direct contributions to his hometown and surrounding communities. Approximately 3,288 volunteer hours have been calculated, 4,000 meals served and hundreds of thousands of in-kind donations have been collected due to his commitment to serve.
David West is a minority owner of Zoetic Global, a global solutions provider. David serves as Zoetic’s Brand Ambassador for Strategic Outreach and Brand Development. In this capacity, David’s vision is to shine a light on renewable resources, emerging technology and self-empowerment and determination through sports. Under the Obama Administration, David was appointed as an Ambassador for the Minorities in Energy Initiative, a group of senior-level leaders committed to lending their voice to the mission of Minorities in Energy through outreach and strategic planning. David has a unique love for the African peoples throughout the diaspora. He hopes that his new and innovative initiatives will work to support all African people in their realizing through self-reliance and self-love “we can together to push our collective agendas forward.”
