Two distinct approaches, departmental BI/BA and enterprise BI/BA, have entrenched themselves into the psyche of business analytics buyers. Both approaches bring strengths and weaknesses to the business. Unfortunately, most organizations lack the ability to move from one approach to the other with ease.
Success will require business analytics users to understand why and when each solution should be deployed. More importantly, organizations must understand the genesis of business value before selecting one strategy over the other. Despite the polarizing views advocated by users in the market, harmonization efforts to bring users to a middle ground will prevail. However, a business value approach must guide these decisions to ensure success for the organization.
