Is it possible to explain IoT and AI in a 30 minute video?
I was challenged to do this for the Constellation Executive Network, also known as CEN, members under the title Industry sector transformation is about smart business - lessons learned and techniques for success. Normally, briefing materials and videos created especially for our CEN members are not shared widely, but on this occasion, given the level of interest in IoT, it has been posted for general public access here.
CEN Member Chat Oct 2016 Smart Business of Industry Transformation from Constellation Research on Vimeo.
The presentation is intended to be an overview of why IoT is genuinely the beginning of a new era delivering the much-discussed Digital Economy, and more importantly the capability for Enterprise Agility. Watching this overview should correct the view that IoT is only about adding sensing to the current Enterprise IT.
The Internet of Things is about the everyday world we see around us where increasingly all manner of devices have processor chips and some form of connectivity. In this world what is needed, can be supplied, when it is needed making it the foundation for the Digital Services Economy. A Business environment where success comes from ‘reading and responding’ to the flow of IoT data within a time frame that to optimize the outcome. And that means ‘Smart Services’ are the competitive differentiator, not just Web Services.
The amount of information, the speed of responses, together with the orchestration of Smart Services all increase the need for Intelligence, and that’s where AI, Augmented Intelligence, becomes the partner of IoT. Once again this is a wholly new approach and very different to Big Data and BI which are the partners of Transactional IT systems and the Web.
Try watching the video and see if this apparently complex combination of Business and Technology innovation makes sense, and changes your whole view on IoT and AI!
Note; Constellation Executive Network members have access to a wide range of content covering summaries to in depth research like what we keep in our Research Library as well as access to Constellation analysts.
