Diane Staheli currently holds the position of Assistant Director, AI Applications at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, where she leads efforts on AI research and development for public missions and AI risk management.  Most recently, she held the position of Chief of Responsible AI for the US Department of Defense, under the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office. Her accomplishments included launching the DoD Responsible AI Strategy and Implementation Pathway and the Responsible AI Toolkit, and serving as the first US representative to NATO’s Data and AI Review Board. She joined CDAO from MIT Lincoln Laboratory, where she led research groups focused on AI, sensors and analytics, and cybersecurity operations for defense and the intelligence community. She has 24 years of experience in technology development, having worked in industry for a global information security company and a home networking startup. She holds an MA in software engineering from Harvard University, and an MS in human factors from Bentley University.
