Portable X-rays are used to image immobile patients in critical care and for high volume emergency departments. During the COVID-19 pandemic, other imaging modalities saw a usage drop of 50-100% while portable X-rays flourished. But, portable X-ray imaging machines result in poor quality images that are dreaded by radiologists. KA Imaging has created the world's first portable (and fixed) single exposure dual energy X-ray detector (called Reveal 35C) that improves early detection (relative to digital X-ray) of many diseases in mobile and fixed healthcare settings that are either missed or diagnosed late. These diseases include pulmonary nodules, pneumothorax, coronary calcium, pneumonia, occupational health lung disease, rib fractures and more. Missed disease diagnoses are responsible for hundreds of millions in malpractice lawsuits in addition to lost early revenue from follow on procedures and increased downstream costs for recovering from a late diagnosis. More importantly, late or missed diagnoses result in a degraded quality of life for the patient.
Who are your first pilot customers? (It’s okay if you don’t have one yet, but if you do, please list):
Customers:
1. University Health Network (Toronto) including Princess Margaret Hospital and Toronto General Hospital
In Evaluation:
1. University of California San Diego
2. MD Anderson
3. Lake Health (part of UH Cleveland)
4. University of Chicago
5. Hamilton Health Sciences (Canada)
What technologies do you use?:
Reveal 35C is the world's first portable dual energy X-ray detector that, using existing X-ray equipment, can simultaneously obtain a regular X-ray image along with two dual energy supplementary images in a single exposure to showcase the soft tissue and the bones for significantly improved diagnosis relative to X-ray. Reveal 35C looks, feels and acts just like a regular X-ray detector with two major exceptions: (1) it has the industry's best dose efficiency and (2) it provides dual energy supplementary images with each exposure. The Reveal 35C detector also includes a battery, WiFi, and uses Automatic Exposure Detection that enables it to work with any X-ray equipment in the world without needing to modify anything. The Reveal 35C ships with an acquisition software called DiscoverMed that generated industry standard DICOM images that are interfaced to any commercial PACS . In short, adopting the Reveal 35C requires 30 min for installation and minimal training since the techs are used to working with digital X-ray and rads know how to read dual energy X-ray.

What is the state of your minimal viable offering?:
Reveal 35C improves early disease detection (lung nodules, coronary calcium, pneumonia, pneumothorax, rib fractures, occupational health lung disease and more) better than standard digital X-ray. Reveal 35C is very simple to adopt and implement because it is the world's first portable dual energy X-ray detector that uses the same dose, same technique and same X-ray source as a standard digital (or analog) X-ray. Reveal 35C also gives the same image as a standard X-ray detector in addition to providing advanced dual energy X-ray images. Early reception at hospitals across North America has been very positive so what we need most today is visibility. With the right amount of visibility, we believe we can make a wholesale change for the better in healthcare outcomes in North America by simply replacing *all* digital (or analog) X-ray detectors with our dual energy X-ray detector. This represents a momentous change in medical imaging since standard X-ray has been around for 120 years and is responsible for 60% of medical imaging today.
