Executive Summary
This report provides an overview of how Google Anthos has changed the market for next-generation computing platforms. Although the recent past of next-generation compute platforms has been characterized by bringing cloud stacks on-premises, with an identicality between the cloud and on-premises being the key success criterion, Google Anthos has expanded the next-generation computing platform to include multicloud deployments.
With Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), Google previously was offering basically the same solution as the other vendors covered in the Constellation Market Overview. All that changed with the announcement of Google Anthos in spring 2019 and the product’s subsequent delivery through 2019 and 2020. Now Google has delivered Anthos, with support for computing loads on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure. In July 2020, Google also announced its first software asset to run across multiple public clouds with Google BigQuery Omni, extending the market from custom loads to vendor software assets running on third-party clouds.
