Currently Thomas Quinlan serves as the Head of Data Governance at Apple Bank, where he has been responsible for building a Data Governance and Data Quality program and function from the ground up over the last four years. These Data Governance and Data Quality functions are considered two of the risk disciplines at Apple Bank, and so Thomas reports into the bank’s Chief Risk Officer.
Tom’s support of this initiative had led to an increased understanding of data, improved data accountability and control, and to better data quality across the Apple Bank, as well as improved regulatory standings. Tom has built and leads a team of data governance and data quality professionals with the mission of “understanding, trusting, and valuing” data across the Bank.
Tom oversees data governance, data quality, and data strategy initiatives and is also the primary lead for all data governance regulatory requirements and relations. Additionally, Tom created Apple Bank’s first corporate mentorship program for the Risk Management talent management initiative that he leads, and also serves as the head of the Risk Management division Planning, Budgeting and Analysis function.
Tom’s career spans 25 years across high profile financial institutions, ratings agencies, and consulting firms. Prior to Apple Bank, Tom spent nearly 10 years with J.P. Morgan Chase in data governance, trading, finance, and strategy across several lines of business and asset classes. While at JP Morgan, Tom served as a Vice President where he led the creation of the Chief Data Office for Regulatory and Capital data across all risk stripes and led numerous strategic initiatives in the Corporate and Investment Bank within the Finance division.
Tom’s career also includes several years of experience in investment banking at UBS, experience in corporate ratings at S&P Global, some time in Prime Brokerage at Deutsche Bank, and management consulting experience at Price Waterhouse Coopers. Tom got his start in equity derivatives and technology at Lehman Brothers.
Tom is currently a board member of the New York Chief Data Officer and Analytics Group through Gartner and is on the Advisory Board of the Consero Chief Data Officer forum. Furthermore, Tom has taught undergraduate and graduate level seminars at Baruch College in a program he invented called “The Wall Street Bootcamp.” Tom is also currently on the Dean’s Advisory Board for the Hofstra University College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Tom holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from Hofstra University. In his free time, Tom welcomes anyone out there willing to challenge him at tennis or a round of golf and savors his time spent with family and friends.
