Barney Pell, Ph.D. is a technology innovator, entrepreneur, investor and advisor. He was Founder and CEO of Powerset, a pioneering startup in natural-language search that was acquired by Microsoft, where he then served as Strategist and Architect of Bing, where he led Microsoft's long-range plan for semantics and knowledge and co-founded Cortana, Microsoft's conversational assistant. He previously managed an 85-person Artificial Intelligence R&D organization at NASA where his teams developed and deployed the first autonomous agent in space, the first conversational assistant in space, and supported the Mars Rover missions. He is currently Venture Partner at Radical Ventures; Industry Advisor for EQT; and Chief Scientist and Head of AI for Magic. He is also an AI Lecturer at Stanford Business School; Associate Founder of Singularity University; Machine Learning Fellow at the Creative Disruption Lab at the University of Toronto; and Founder of multiple startup companies.
