The Project
Nathan eliminated his company’s data center and pushed 100% of enterprise applications and services into the cloud with an extremely scalable and extensible cloud architecture. In addition to this, he broke his company’s dependency on Microsoft by eliminating Active Directory and Windows based Services. Not only has he maintained compliance throughout, he has seen a 60% reduction in costs with no loss of innovation, personnel or prohibition of data.
The Technology
- Cloudlock for Google Apps
- Okta
Metrics Matter
Before implementation, AMAG had a state of the art data center which had an annual maintenance cost of approximately $2.8m.
After implementation, AMAG now pays less than $900k per year to support all services including tertiary redundancy on all platforms.
Disruptive Factor
At the time we began in 2008, the thought of moving to the cloud in general was extremely risky across all industries but was specifically anathema to biopharma companies. We ignored every trend and all FUD and, through our own diligence, research and testing, discovered that not only was it possible but it was entirely within immediate reach. This was all accomplished with a staff of four for a company that at its peak was over 300 employees.
Shining Moment
We placed our CEO and CFO on our testing program for Google Mail and both not only loved it but were some of the greatest evangelists of the platform. We see new innovations from employees every day on our platforms and they are constantly finding ways to make their jobs better with all of the services available to them.
