The Project
EMC Corp., the leader in cloud computing, big data and trusted IT solutions, launched RAMP (Recognition, Award, & Motivator Program), powered by The Behavior Platform by Badgeville, to enhance engagement across their ECN (EMC Community Network). Utilizing powerful game mechanics, they looked to improve the quality and quantity of interactions from their 240k-member online community of employees, partners and customers.
RAMP had four goals:
- Recognize and promote employee, partner, and customer advocacy
- Recognize, guide, and reward their behavior
- Create Influencers
- Build careers for program members
The Technology
Metrics Matter
Since building and layering Badgeville’s Game Mechanics on top of its Jive-based ECN, EMC has seen a 21% increase in overall user activity, including lift in these key behaviors (percent increase):
- + 10% Documents Created
- + 10% Visits
- + 12% Page Views
- + 15% Replies to Discussion Threads
- + 19% Files Downloaded
- + 41% Videos Watched
Disruptive Factor
Community response was nearly 100% positive, and the program ultimately increased every behavior targeted. At the conclusion of our launch at EMC World, the appetite to interact and build new missions and reward systems across the entire EMC ecosystem immediately skyrocketed.
Shining Moment
The initial pitch to executives took place just 10 weeks before EMC World. Because the plan was so fully developed and fleshed out prior to kickoff, it was implemented, tested, verified and launched in fewer than seven weeks. The program became the first ever to include integration with both existing badge scan technology and the EMC community built on Jive Software.
